Premium dried nori for marine herbivores

Nereus Seaweed is pure, unseasoned sushi-grade nori (Porphyra / Pyropia) prepared for aquarium use — the same style of sheet used in quality sushi kitchens, without salt, oil or flavour coatings that do not belong in a reef.

Herbivorous marine fish such as tangs (Zebrasoma, Acanthurus), rabbitfish and many angels benefit from daily grazing. A clipped sheet keeps them occupied the way natural rock algae would on a reef, and adds plant protein and fibre that pellet-only diets often under-deliver.

Why this format

  • Single-ingredient dried nori — nothing added for human snacking
  • Easy to clip, portion and store
  • Encourages natural scraping and grazing behaviour
  • Complements herbivore pellets, spirulina foods and mature live rock
  • Clean, international food-grade presentation suitable for serious aquariums

Nutrition (typical per sheet)

Values below follow common plain sushi-nori labelling (~2.5–3 g per sheet). Exact sheets vary slightly by harvest; use as a practical aquarium reference, not a veterinary prescription.

Per sheet (≈ 2.5–3 g) Typical amount
Calories ~5–10 kcal
Protein ~1 g
Carbohydrate ~1 g
Dietary fibre ~0.5–1 g
Fat ~0 g
Sodium ~0–5 mg
Potassium ~60–70 mg
Iron ~0.4 mg

From a fish perspective: one sheet is a low-calorie, high-fibre plant snack with useful protein density for its weight (~30–40% protein by dry mass in many nori analyses). It supports grazing enrichment more than it replaces a complete prepared diet.

Not a complete diet. Rotate with quality marine herbivore pellets / frozen foods and natural algae on rock.

How to feed

  1. Use a veggie clip or seaweed clip on glass or rockwork in moderate flow.
  2. Start with a half sheet for a medium tang, or a smaller scrap for a single fish. Increase only if it is fully eaten.
  3. Leave it for 1–3 hours of grazing, then remove leftovers so decaying algae does not spike nutrients.
  4. Offer daily or several times weekly depending on livestock and how much natural algae your rock already grows.
  5. Never use roasted snack nori with oil, salt, sesame or seasonings.

Best practice

  • Pair with the Nereus dashboard mindset: watch nitrate/phosphate if you feed heavily.
  • Keep unused sheets sealed and dry.
  • Ideal for quarantine and display tanks where you want predictable, clean greens.

Nereus Seaweed is a simple product done properly — premium nori, clear feeding guidance, and the grazing behaviour herbivores were built for.
